The top four window cleaner recipes you can make in your home are, in no particular order:

1. Vinegar Window Washing Solution

  • 1 part vinegar
  • 1 part hot water

Hint: The heat of the water helps the vinegar to clean better.

2. Ammonia Window Cleaner Recipe

  • 1/2 cup ammonia
  • 1 gallon of warm water

3. Ammonia And Alcohol Window Cleaning Recipe

  • 1/2 cup ammonia
  • 2 cups rubbing alcohol
  • Optional ingredient: 1 tsp of hand dishwashing liquid
  • 3/4 gallon of water

4. Plain Water For Cleaning Windows

  • Hot or warm water

Hint: If your windows aren't too dirty this will work pretty well, and it sure is cheap, easy and green.

Bonus Tip: Do Not Combine These Recipes Together

While both ammonia and vinegar are good ingredients, separately, for making window cleaning solutions, it does not make an even better cleaner to combine them together.

The reason is that vinegar is an acid, while ammonia is an alkali, meaning that adding them together just negates their effectiveness.
