Natural Air Fresheners - Recipes And Instructions

Natural air fresheners can give a room a wonderful smell, without the cost of commercial products, or the fear of what the chemicals in them may contain.

There are many recipes for homemade air fresheners available, using essential oils.

However, besides essential oils there are many other natural alternatives for freshening the air in your home.

One of the most simple of these alternatives is simply boiling something fragrant to release the perfumed steam into the air. This is a technique familiar to use around Christmas time, but I believe it can and should be used year round.

Here is a variation of one of my favorite smells, which some people identify as smelling of Christmas, while others think of it more as smelling like a freshly baked pie. (Both are good in my opinion.)

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups water
  • Whole orange, with whole cloves stuck in it
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 apple, sliced (optional)

Directions:

Step 1: Combine all the ingredients in a pot, and bring the liquid to a boil.

Step 2: Reduce the heat so that the liquid simmers, and let the fragrance permeate the rooms of your home. (Note that means you should keep the pot uncovered.)

Hint: Be careful not to let the water boil off.
