I Hate Laundry So I Have A Marathon Laundry Day Weekly

Taylor says:

While I myself advocate a weekly schedule for your laundry, that does not suit every household manager's likes and dislikes. The point is to do what works best for your family and if it ain't broke, don't fix it! See how Pam does her laundry here:

Pam says:

I am a mother of three, and five people total live in my house.

I could never do laundry daily, because I hate laundry!

Therefore, I just have one laundry day every week where I wash all the clothes.

Generally this means that I do laundry all day, a real marathon session.

Then, at the end of laundry day, once all the clothes have been washed and dried, and the kids are in bed, I watch TV and fold everything.

Everyone helps me put everything away the next morning.

I had to buy some extra clothes to do this, because I wash clothes so infrequently, but it is well worth it to me to not have to deal with it everyday!

Taylor again:

Thanks Pam for sharing your laundry schedule with us.

Marathon all the way!
by: Anonymous

I do the marathon thing too! I have 3 boys and a household of five is just killer with laundry. I try to do all the laundry in 1-2 days. I stay at home with the kids so that is fine for me. Remembering the laundry every day, going up and down would make me crazy. I don't really iron much. My husbands work shirts get dry cleaned. I tried doing them myself, but even a stay at home mom's time is valuable and it just took way too long to iron all those shirts! For the few bucks it was worth my money!

I'm with you!
by: Mama Cat

I would much rather have a marathon laundry day. I work at home, so I look for my lightest load of conference calls and do it that day.

As for the questions all over the site of 'when do you iron', my question is this...who still irons and why? If you take out your clothes immediately and hang, you have no issue with that. Ironing is a rarity and we all look sharp and neat.

Laundry Woes
by: Anonymous

My experience is that I have no trouble doing the laundry but folding, hanging & putting it away are my downfalls. Inevitably I end up with several baskets of clean, wrinkled laundry in different areas of the house. I do not have a dedicated laundry or ironing day; my only goal is to put away one load before starting another.

Marathon Laundry Day

So, when do you do the ironing? My marathon laundry day has to also include ironing all of my husband's shirts and pants along with my clothes that have to be ironed. Wears me out!

Loving Laundry - not possible for me
by: Jillie

I have never enjoyed laundry and don't know what to do when I have kids, but I've gotten away from the once a week deal b/c it is too much. What I TRY to do is wash a load at night, dry it over night, put it away in the morning. Sometimes I have more laundry than usual and may end up with 3 loads on Saturday so I put music on and while clothes are washing I do my weekly chores (mopping, etc.) while folding/putting away in between. My husband will sometimes do the putting away if I wash/fold. I think it should be 50/50 since we both work full time and it's working out well so far.

I just hate folding and putting away
by: Anonymous

I am just starting out with a home of my own with my fiancé and I truly don't mind laundry though I really dislike folding and putting clothes away for some reason lol, Sean (The fiancé) usually helps with this part so it's not all me since he knows how I hate this part of the chore.

If you hate laundry how do you make it better?
by: Taylor

Pam makes a good point -- some people just hate doing laundry. Fellow readers, do you have any advice for Pam on what helped you if you hated laundry to make it better, or does she just need to grin and bear it?
